House of Flags in Columbus,N.C.

Our purpose

Flags tell us the story of a group's struggle for identity and freedom.

In the House of Flags, if we listen closely enough, we can hear the stories of these flags ringing loud and clear.

Welcome to the House of Flags

House of Flags Museum Grand Opening

You are cordially invited to the grand opening of our newly remodeled Museum located at 33 Gibson Street in downtown Columbus, North Carolina at noon on Veteran’s Day, November 11th 2011.

The program will include music, military veteran’s color guard, Sons of the American Revolution color guard, local dignitaries and special guests. The dedication of the new building and ribbon cutting will be followed by tours of the building and flag collection and light refreshments.

We are proud of our accomplishments since beginning in an old unheated, un-air conditioned warehouse 13 miles from town in 2001. We are the ONLY House of Flags Museum in America and possibly one of three in the world! Come celebrate our new beginning. See the power of a vision and what local community governments, businesses, service clubs, and residents can accomplish.

This unique educational museum was opened on September 8th 2001 in response to local citizen’s desire to instill respect and etiquette for the flag of the United States of America. As the flag collection grew to over 300 different flags the history education role of the Museum also grew.

The collection begins with US military service and Veteran’s flags, religious flags, pre-Colonial and Colonial flags. From there the tour continues through the Revolutionary and Civil War eras to the birth of the “Stars and Stripes” of the U.S. The centerpiece of the collection is the display of all 27 official flags of our Nation from 13 to 50 stars. Each state’s and territory’s flags are also on display along with a number of unique flags associated with historical events.
